DIVE MEXICO – YUCATAN : 16-30 NOVEMBER 2024 from £2599

Two Weeks : All Inclusive 4* Resorts : Playa del Carmen & Cozumel Island, with 5 or 10 days ocean diving included.

Flying Gatwick – Cancun with British Airways, then private transfer down to Playa del Carmen for the first week – then across on the Fast-Cat ferry to spend a week on Cozumel Island for the very best in Caribbean Reef Diving….

Staying at the 4* All Inclusive Allegro Hotels on the Mayan Riviera & South Western coast of Cozumel Island – gives access to some of the worlds finest diving !

Catering for the vacation market from The USA – service quality is always great in the resort hotels in Mexico – with superb quality All Inclusive food & drinks… Air Con rooms, with usual luxury facilities and great beach & pools to relax on after fantastic days of diving…. There’s the busy nightlife available on 5th Avenue in Playa on week 1, then chilling out island-life style on Cozumel with the added bonus of spectacular sunsets from the beach.

The hotels are based just 10 mins taxi from the town center for bars & restaurants for evenings out – there’s a wide range of local Mexican cuisine, as well as the entertainments available at Hooters, Margarita-Ville, Senor Frogs and other lively venues.

Playa del Carmen sits in the middle of the Mexican Riviera stretching 45km from Cancun down to Puerto Aventuras – all with white sand beaches and warm Caribbean waters surrounding the second largest barrier reef in the world.

The Yucatan Peninsula is a huge limestone platform where fresh water runs like rivers through underground cave systems. Part of this land collapsed after the last ice age more than 8,000 years ago, creating sinkholes called Cenotes, derived from the Mayan word “Dzonot” which means sacred well. The cenotes were considered the entrance to the mythical underworld by the ancient Mayans and were sometimes used for sacrificial offerings. Today, three of the world’s longest underwater cave systems can be found in this area.

Palancar Reef on Punta Sur, at the South West tip of Cozumel was named by Jacques Cousteau as one of the Top 5 dive sites in the world. With multiple destinations to explore there’s something for every level of diver. Whether you are newly certified PADI Advanced diver – or very experienced, a photographers or observer, a lover of macro or perhaps the big stuff, you’re sure to thoroughly enjoy your time underwater.

Dive packs at both resorts include 5 Days of Ocean Reef two tank morning boat dive trips (extra dives may be available in afternoons weather dependant) – with upgrade options for guided Cavern Dives in the world famous Cenotes.. simply stunning underwater scenery !
We can also add an extra day of diving in each resort if you want even more…

There is an option to pre-book Ocean Dives only in Cozumel, giving the opportunity to book a specialist Cavern/Cave week in Playa… Contact Ryby direct for details on this.

The freshwater Cenotes have been one of Ryby’s favourite playgrounds for Cave Diving so much so that this next trip will be his 12th visit to the area for diving : top choice destination !

Cozumel also has some serious history within the Blue Ocean Scubaholics Dive Club….

– It was here that Ryby & Raff qualified as CCR rebreather divers over 10years ago
– and where Ryby became CCR instructor on the Hollis Prism2 rebreather – and logged his first 200 minute dive – covering 8 dive sites in one long (& fast) drift dive from Palancar all the way back to the harbour

We will be diving with Pro-Dive Mexico – a thoroughly professional, well organised and friendly team who have looked after several Blue Ocean trips in recent years.

The Dive Boats are purpose built and operate a very slick service of 2 morning dives from 8.30-12.30, and then options for afternoon dives 2-4pm – so we will always be back at the resort for a good lunch!

Diving in the Ocean from Playacar is varied, with reefs from 18-40m, wrecks teaming with life, and a “virtual guarantee” of Big Turtles on many dive sites. Most dive sites are only a 10min fast ride in the dive boat, and the sea is usually flat calm…

On Cozumel Island the dive sites spread from the very Southern tip of the Island up the West coast to Cozumel harbour are varied and diverse. Some are wide flat reefs with sandy bottoms at 8-14m, others are walls where you can reach 40m easily and the deep blue falls away beneath you.

There are Reef sections that are riddled with coral caves and swim throughs like a swiss-cheese : with every colour of the rainbow in hard & soft corals and a myriad of sponges in every shape and size.

Turtles, Eagle Rays, Morays and Caribbean Lobsters are common on most sites – with a vast array of tropical reef fish… all in water that is 28*C and 30-50m viz : it is simply stunning diving every day in Mexico.

The currents at various points on most sites give rise to drift dives as standard – which can either be a gentle serene experience as you float along the reef – or a genuine roller-coaster yeehaa “I’m Flying” ride where the current is faster than you could run….

So that everyone gets the most out of these spectacular underwater sites : everybody dives on NITROX – and at NO EXTRA CHARGE…. but you must be certified.
