Course Details

The PADI Advanced Open Water course is a two-day, FIVE DIVE programme designed to increase your diving experience and knowledge under supervision. You will be having fun and continuing to build your confidence in a controlled and safe yet more challenging environment.

On this course you’re introduced to the knowledge development and practical application to participate in more adventurous diving.

There is home study e-learning for the course - It’s an interesting read in preparation to go diving, but it isn’t anyway near as much work as the Open Water Course.
There’s no need for a classroom on this course – let’s focus on getting wet and exploring new adventures in diving.

The full course is completed in one great weekend at Stoney Cove, or on one of the many great dive club holidays abroad.

The Advanced Course is FANTASTIC FUN!

At Blue Ocean Diving we strongly recommend that students focus on learning skills which will improve your diving rather than peripheral subjects. You can get to those later when you’re more comfortable in the water.

With this in mind, on day one of the program students complete the Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive – learning skills which improve weighting, streamlining and trim to reduce physical effort and air consumption, making it all just feel easy.

The Underwater Navigation Dive – builds confidence in compass work, distance estimation and natural referencing to improve dive planning and orientation.

These dives are conducted on the first Saturday afternoon at Stoney Cove each month to allow newly qualified open water graduates to get straight back in the water and extend skills & experience at intermediate depths of 10 to 14 meters.

An evening out with the Scubaholics Dive Club for a good meal and a few gentle drinks makes this a great weekend trip away.

Sunday morning has us back at the quarry at Stoney Cove, gaining experience on their first Deep dive to between 22 to 26 metres.

You’ll also conduct a Wreck Dive – learning the safe diving techniques you’ll need when you join us on one of our many trips along the UK South Coast exploring ShipWrecks!

This is followed by planning and completing a Multi-level Computer Dive. In this dive you’ll learn the benefit of a stepped ascending dive profile to gain longer dive times - it provides a great way to gain experience and extensively tour the dive site

An alternative (or additional) option to this plan is to do a Night Dive, which opens up a new world of underwater adventures. Great fun if you’re scared of the dark!

Gaining the Adventure Diver qualification if three of these dives are completed, or the full Advanced Open Water qualification after doing five dives, this enables you to explore new depths and have more excitement in the ocean.

What You Need to Know

There are several pre-requisites before you can book onto the Advanced Open Water Course which are as follow:

• You must be at least 12-years-old
• You must hold an Open Water Diver certification
• You need to have your own personal boots, fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuit gloves.
  Everything else is supplied as part of the Advanced Course fees.
• If you want to take the additional option of the Night Adventure dive you will need your own primary torch and back-up light.

Book your PADI Advanced Course together with the Drysuit Specialty and SAVE £100 off the total price.
You'll need to do a pool orientation on a Tues/Thurs evening - then TWO DIVES in a DrySuit at the Lakes : then  you can do all the dives on the Advanced Course at Stoney Cove as a qualified DrySuit Diver... staying much much warmer !
